Vietnam Machinery Erection Corporation (LILAMA),
is a state owned enterprise which was established in 1960 and was aimed at the restoration
of national industry after the war. In the seventies, LILAMA erected many plants
such as the Thac Bac hydropower plant, Ninh Binh and Uong Bi thermal power plant,
and factories in Thuong Dinh in the Viet Tri industrial zone. These were all important
contributions to the Socialist Construction period in the North of Vietnam.
LILAMA has successfully erected and put into
operation thousands of works covering all facets of the national economy, among
these the Hoa Binh and Tri An hydropower plants, the Bim Son and Kien Luong cement
plants and the 500kV North – South transformer stations. In late 1995, after re-structuring
and adopting the model of a large corporation, LILAMA made spectacular breakthroughs
in manufacturing equipment and steel structures for industrial works, and successfully
signed contracts for the Chin Fong, Nghi Son and Hoang Mai cement plants worth several
hundred million US dollars.
With their contribution to the economy and
vast growth from field work and engineering to equipment manufacture and construction
management, LILAMA was successfully appointed as the EPC contractor for the Uong
Bi 300 MW thermal power plant, Camau 720 MW combined cycle power plant and packages
2 and 3 of the Dung Quat oil refinery, from 2000 onwards. This event placed LILAMA
in the position of being the first Vietnamese EPC contractor. LILAMA has confirmed
their capability as an EPC contractor by bidding and winning the EPC contract for
the Dung Quat oil refinery amongst strong competition from international bidders;
a contract worth in excess of 230 million US dollars.
Presently LILAMA and its subsidiary companies
employ 20,000 staff. LILAMA runs a welding technology institute and two training
colleges for artisans. LILAMA and its subsidiaries employ more than 2,500 engineers
and 2,000 welders with internationally recognized certification. LILAMA is an ISO
9001-2000 certified company and all subsidiary companies carry an ISO 9002 certification.
Fully equipped with advanced engineering and manufacturing capabilities, LILAMA
is well on its way to succeeding in its aim of becoming a Heavy Engineering Group.
